It was built in 1846 and then enlarged in 1876. In 1895 it was equipped with a Wetzel organ with mechanical transmission. Decorated with a series of remarkable frescoes by the artist Achille Metzger in 1922, it is the only synagogue in Alsace not to have been desecrated by the Nazis.
