The Statue of the Virgin, comforter of all distress, located on the esplanade, was inaugurated on September 8, 1862.
- The column is carved from white stone from the Phalsbourg region.
- It is the work of the sculptor Feuerstein de Barr.
- Seven meters high, it carries a two-meter statue of the Virgin in gilded cast iron.
After the Second World War, it was taken as a symbol by the people of Rhineland-Palatinate because it had remained intact while the surrounding area had been ravaged by bombing.
